EVENT RECAP | SMPS NY-NJ Affiliate Spooky Spirits

Posted on Nov. 3, 2021  /  Event Recap  /   0

Marketers from across the state conquered work deadlines and The Great Swamp to come together for the first in-person Spirits Event of the year! That’s right, this year’s Spooky Spirits, held last Wednesday, October 27th, was in the flesh… at our favorite spot, the Stirling Hotel in Stirling, NJ!

Attendees participated in several spooky activities, including pumpkin painting, tarot card readings, and the witches brew scavenger hunt (Won by Michelle Dugliss of Techno Consult). The Halloween-themed pumpkins, featuring cats, spiders, and even the SMPS™ logo itself, are pictured below! A special shoutout to our amazing sponsors, DRG Architects and RSC Architects, for providing all the decorations and prizes!

Some topics of discussion that night included different working models, current workloads, and managing styles, held over some rosemary spritzes, Moscow mules, and seasonal drafts.

In keeping with the Halloween theme, several marketers arrived ready to scare (and conquer the patriarchy), with appearances from Freddy Krueger, Rosie the Riveter, and a rainbow unicorn. Our in-house fortune teller, Cristiana Formica of Gensler, gave in-depth tarot card readings, channeling the marketing spirits to help attendees navigate their careers, personal lives, and finances! Tables adorned with candelabras, skulls, and some body parts added to the spooky ambiance.

This fall, SMPS-NY participated in the Trick or Treat for UNICEF campaign, which provides children across the world with immunization, education, healthcare, nutrition, safe water and sanitation, and emergency relief all for the price of a bag of Halloween Candy. Attendees who donated were entered into a Halloween raffle, the grand prize being a free registration to a future SMPS event of your choice! A huge congratulations to Cristiana Formica of Gensler, for winning the grand prize! Our campaign has already raised $285, over 50% of our $500 goal. If you weren’t able to make the event, no worries, our fundraising page will be active until November 14th!

Though we’ve loved the convenience of virtual spirits this past year, I think we all missed in-person networking a lot more (as long as it’s executed safely, of course). We had so much fun planning this event, and our Spirits committee is gearing up for the next one, so stay tuned for our Annual New Year’s Spirits, which is taking place January 12th in Jersey City!
