Why did you join SMPS?
I’ve only been in the AEC industry for a few years, but everyone speaks highly of SMPS. As an AEC marketing newbie, I wanted to connect to as many people in my position as possible to learn from their experiences, share stories of challenges and hardship, and develop realistic strategies and solutions. With that information and support, I can do my job to the best of my capabilities.
What drives you in your career?
The fun thing about marketing work in civil engineering is that no proposal is alike, even if the scope seems identical to something you’ve done in the past. Every pursuit forces you to evolve and adapt. Each pursuit is a personal challenge to measure how my skillset has matured, how fast I can adapt to changes, and how much more comfortable and confident I become collaborating with people who are far more intelligent and experienced than me. There’s so much to learn!
What do you like to do outside of work?
Currently, I spend my free time at yoga classes and working on personal writing projects. I also get a kick out of visiting grocery stores.
Anything else you want to highlight?
My experiences have taught me that marketing is what you make it. At the same time, different situations call for different depths of marketing. If you want to be a walking calendar where your primary function is to remind people of imminent due dates, you can be that (and that can be very helpful!) Or, you can lean into the process, learn everything you possibly can without getting your PE license and make significant contributions for a strategic win.
Jeffrey Taub, FSMPS, CPSM, has been promoted to Senior Vice President at AKRF. Jeffrey is currently the co-chair of the SMPS-NY Mentoring Program and a NERC 2023 Programs Committee member.
Katherine DeMercurio, Director of Marketing at EverGreene Architectural Arts, will participate as an awards judge at the SMPS Houston Starry Night Gala on March 3, 2023!
Carlyle Lobo, Senior Proposal Manager at Schimenti Construction Company, will speak at the New York Build Expo on Winning More Work: Keys to Elevating Proposals and Closing Project Interviews on March 8, 2023!
Matthew Barlow has been promoted to Associate at Dattner Architects! Matthew leads new business development initiatives and works closely with firm leadership, design teams, and clients to develop tailored proposals.
Rory McMahon, Healthcare Practice Area Marketing Specialist at Perkins Eastman, recently had a baby boy, Harrison, who was born on December 12, 2022, weighing in at 7lbs 9oz and 20" tall.
