Meaningful conversations, practical insights, and valuable new connections made for an engaging evening at the SMPS-NY Long Island Affiliate's June Knowledge Exchange.
On June 24, AEC marketing and business development professionals from across Long Island gathered at H2M architects + engineers in Melville for an evening of networking, learning, and peer-to-peer discussion. Attendees enjoyed light bites and refreshments while connecting with industry colleagues before diving into an informative educational session.
The evening's presentation was led by Morgan Rooney, CPSM, H2M's Corporate Communications Manager and SMPS New York Director of Public Relations, who shared practical strategies for growing a firm's LinkedIn presence organically - without relying on paid advertising.
Using H2M's own LinkedIn success as a case study, Morgan demonstrated how consistent, thoughtful content and active employee engagement have helped build meaningful momentum across a firm of more than 580 employees and 15 offices.
Her approach centered on two key principles: be consistent and stay authentic. She emphasized the importance of developing a balanced content strategy that includes:
- Project highlights and field photography
- New hire announcements and employee spotlights
- Awards, partnerships, and firm milestones
- Company culture moments
- Carousel posts and short-form video content
Morgan also reinforced that engagement is a two-way conversation. Sharing content internally, responding to comments, and strategically using tags and mentions all help expand reach and encourage meaningful interaction. When employees become advocates for their firm's content, the impact grows exponentially.
Five Key Takeaways
- Post with intention.
- Diversify your content mix.
- Engage consistently with your network.
- Empower employees to participate.
- Measure results, refine your strategy, and repeat.
The presentation concluded with a lively roundtable discussion, giving attendees the opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and continue building connections with fellow AEC marketing and business development professionals.
A special thank you to H2M architects + engineers for graciously hosting the event and providing such a welcoming space for our Long Island Affiliate community.
