SMPS-NY Member Town Hall - Looking Ahead Together

Transparency, collaboration, and member engagement were at the forefront of the SMPS New York Member Town Hall, held virtually on June 24.
Hosted by SMPS-NY President Natasha Camarillo, the interactive session brought members together for a look back at the chapter's accomplishments over the past six months, an overview of upcoming programs and initiatives, and an open discussion about the future direction of SMPS New York.
Natasha began by highlighting the chapter's momentum in 2026, reflecting on a robust calendar of educational programs, networking events, affiliate initiatives, leadership development opportunities, and technology-focused programming that has served AEC marketers and business developers across the region. She also recognized the tremendous contributions of the chapter's volunteers, committee members, sponsors, and attendees whose continued involvement makes these programs possible.
Members also received a preview of several upcoming opportunities, including:
- Long Island and New Jersey Affiliate Knowledge Exchanges
- The annual Liberty Awards Reception
- Marketing Communications Awards (MCA) and Professional Achievement Awards (PAA) nominations
- The ongoing Empire State CPSM Bootcamp
A significant portion of the Town Hall focused on proposed governance updates designed to align SMPS New York with SMPS Headquarters' model bylaws while strengthening the chapter for the future. Natasha walked attendees through the proposed changes, including:
- A streamlined Board structure designed to improve accountability and long-term sustainability
- Leadership term alignment with the calendar year
- Updates to the chapter's nominations and election process
- Increased member participation in future bylaw amendments
- A roadmap for implementing the proposed governance changes over the coming months
Throughout the presentation, Natasha emphasized that these changes are intended to strengthen the chapter's foundation by creating clearer leadership pathways, improving succession planning, and ensuring SMPS New York remains well-positioned to serve its members for years to come. The session concluded with an open forum inviting members to ask questions, share feedback, and participate in shaping the chapter's future. While the presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the proposed changes, the Town Hall also reinforced one of SMPS New York's core values - that member voices are essential to the continued growth and success of the chapter.
