In this member spotlight, we’re getting to know Alex Borowick and learning more about their journey through the AEC industry and involvement with SMPS. Alex shares insights on career growth, the value of mentorship and networking, finding opportunities to expand their skills, and a few of the passions and adventures that keep life interesting outside of work.
Please introduce yourself! What is your current role and company? How many years’ experience do you have?
Hello! I am Alex Borowick and I am a Proposal Manager at EnTech Engineering, a CM, engineering, environmental, and digital delivery firm based out of NYC. I lead every stage of proposal development, from initial go/no go review and compliance analysis to writing proposal content and designing new graphics. In addition to the typical Proposal Manager tasks, I also administer our firm’s CRM, which allows me to utilize my interest in data analytics.
I have been working in the AEC industry for over 8 years. I originally started as part-time Marketing Intern for an architectural firm while in college and haven’t left the industry yet!
What inspired you to join SMPS and get more involved?
My first manager and mentor, Jen Mannino from LAN Associates, encouraged me to join SMPS when I started my career after college. She always pushed me to test my limits and explore opportunities to grow as a professional.
How are you hoping SMPS will help grow your career?
I am past the point of hoping SMPS will grow my career – it already has!

There are events to learn from others, present to others, and grow your network. Being a part of a community of people who have similar experiences and challenges offers a wide pool of unique solutions.
Of all the events you have attended, what kind of events are your favorite? What tips would you give to new members joining us?
I really enjoy programs that mix knowledge sharing with networking, as it is the best of both worlds. In July, I was able to present on the topic of “AI in Proposal Management” at the NJ Knowledge Exchange and really enjoyed it. It challenged me to develop my public speaking and presentation skills, something that I have been trying to emphasize recently. It also is a great opportunity to get in front of the crowd and share my knowledge, something that is not always available to people in our roles.
The biggest tip I would give to anyone joining SMPS is to participate in the mentorship program. I have been a mentee 3 times, and each of my 3 mentors (Michael, Lindsay, and Tiffany) has been critical in helping me shape my career.
What’s a project or accomplishment you’re especially proud of?
Over the past year and a half, I have spent a lot of time revamping EnTech’s CRM system and proposal tracking processes. The goal was to reorganize the system to help senior leadership track KPIs and improve our decision-making process for proposals. Earlier this year, I was able to present a thorough analysis of our proposal efforts for the first time in the firm’s 25-year history! We are holding recurring meetings to review the data and to explore how we can use this information to improve our workflow.
Outside of career-life, what are some hobbies or adventures you like to have?
My wife and I spend most of our free time chasing our 1.5-year-old daughter around the house. Does that count as a hobby?
I am also a big reader – in 2025 I set a new personal record with reading 72 books (mostly a mix between sci-fi and historic non-fiction). Recent recommendations include Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman, and The Last Stand by Nathanial Philbrick. I am always open to suggestions!
