It’s 2022, we’ve entered our third (and hopefully final) year of the pandemic, potentially with herd immunity in sight, but for many of us, our working lifestyles are still TBD and as up-in-the-air as the unpredictable age we’re in. Companies are changing how they operate, because we, as a people, have been forever changed, and there may be no “going back to normal,” but only paving the way for a new normal.
In this latest episode of The Marketing Department, titled “Working Models,” Melissa Whitman, Brooke Weinstein, and Justin Davidson discuss in-person, hybrid, and remote working––the highs, the lows, and the unexpected––giving insight to how each of their companies have adapted and are operating successfully.
Throughout their discussion, they found the in-person working model preserves company culture, makes hard copy proposals easier to produce and makes onboarding and mentoring more seamless between new hires and senior staff. But if your clients mostly require digital submissions, and your company culture can be communicated properly through digital platforms, a hybrid working model may be more beneficial. Hybrid working models help reduce the cost of commuting, allow more employee autonomy, and promote work-life balance. Finally, the fully remote working model, if executed correctly, can keep all these factors intact, while allowing employees full autonomy. The successful working model starts at the top, with company and president buy-in, streamlined communication and processes, and most importantly, trust in your employees. The biggest lesson learned from this pandemic is that no matter where employees log in, deadlines and deliverables are being met.
The overall message throughout this conversation is clear, a working model isn’t one size fits all. We all work differently, and as long as we have the trust and support of our employers, we should be able to choose the working model that works best for us. Justin Davidson said it best, if your company doesn’t allow their employees complete autonomy, maybe it’s time to have that discussion, or simply find a company that does.
