And Just Like That, We’re Back!

After two years of digitally celebrating the SMPS-NY Annual Meeting and Liberty Ball, we were finally able to be in person. Our unforgettable evening took place on June 9th at Taj II, and for many of us, it was the first time seeing each other since before the pandemic. The evening was an opportunity to catch up, network, and meet our newest members, as well as celebrate our annual achievements. We started the Liberty Ball with our annual meeting by introducing the current (2021-2022) and upcoming Board of Directors (2022-2023) and looking back at our progress over the year. We even had guest appearances from Michael Geary, Chief Executive Officer, and Marci Thompson, Chief Strategy Officer, from SMPS National Headquarters.

During the evening (and in between an amazing Indian cuisine dinner) we announced the Professional Achievement Award winners and winners of the Marketing Communications Awards. Those honored with awards this year are incredibly deserving—your hard work speaks volumes and sets a strong precedent for future AEC marketers! This year’s winners of the SMPS-NY Marketing and Communications Awards are:

  • STO Building Group: Newsletter
  • EverGreene Architectural Arts: Social Media and People's Choice
  • Nexus Creative Design: Promotional Campaign
  • BCCI Construction & STO Building Group: Website
  • AKRF Inc.: Video
  • Urban Atelier Group: Corporate Identity
  • WB Engineers+Consultants: Holiday Piece
  • And a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Christopher Pedecine for his honor as Vanguard of the Year. He is a great supporter of marketing and committed to the AEC community as a teacher and organizer of many professional development courses.

The evening was especially meaningful to me. My firm, Urban Atelier Group, was recognized with two awards (Best Corporate Identity and a Merit Award for Best Website), and I am humbled to be named the Marketer of the Year! It is an honor to be recognized by your peers. It truly validates the hard work and creativity to make our firms and ourselves shine.

I’ve been an active member of SMPS since 2015, where I’ve been fortunate enough to meet several marketers in this niche industry. The professionals at the Liberty Ball (as well as those unable to attend) are extraordinary. SMPS is a particularly unique network of fun, passionate, and dedicated individuals consistently pushing the boundaries of marketing within the AEC industry. In my next chapter with SMPS-NY, I will be joining the Board of Directors as the Director of Public Relations.

Congratulations to all the winners and Honorees. See you next year at the Liberty Ball (and all the SMPS-NY programs and events in between).

A special THANK YOU to all of our Sponsors whose generosity and support made this night possible!
