Each spring, SMPS New York members have the opportunity to shape the future of the organization. Join your peers in nominating yourself or someone else for the 2024-2025 Chapter Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
This local chapter of the Society of Professional Marketing Services—inclusive of the Westchester-Hudson Valley, Long Island and New Jersey affiliate chapters—educates and advocates for creative and sales professionals who provide marketing, business development, communications, and related services to the region’s architectural, engineering and construction firms. As a board member or committee volunteer, you will gain valuable experience while making a real impact in shaping the future of our chapter.

Nominations are now open until Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Those nominated will be on the ballot during the chapter’s election period, concluding on May 31, 2024. All SMPS members are invited to submit their nominees through our online survey

There are two open officer positions:
● Vice President/President-Elect
● Secretary
There are three open director positions:
● Director of Public Relations
● Director of Programs
● Director of New Jersey Affiliate
To be eligible to run for Secretary or Vice President/President Elect, a candidate must:
● Be a Regular or Distinguished Life Member in good standing (current) with SMPS New York
● Have served at least one full two-year term as an Officer or member of the Board of Directors
Nominees for director positions must:
● Be members in good standing (current) with SMPS New York.
● Committee/volunteer experience is preferred within SMPS or involvement with other industry organizations.
Eligibility requirements:
● Member of SMPS-NY
● Visionary and strategic thinker
o Status must be kept current during the entire tenure on the Board
● Have the endorsement of your firm
● Committed to the Society’s mission and vision
● Committed to the Society’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives
● Willing to devote an estimated 10-15 hours per month to SMPS-NY
● Be a team player and contribute personal and professional qualities that complement those of other board members
● Become knowledgeable about current goals and issues of importance to the Society and be committed to advancing the interests of the Society and its members
● Be willing to place the purposes and interests of SMPS above your own professional and personal interests when making decisions as a board member
● Have positive leadership attributes, emotional intelligence, and ability to work collaboratively and engage in appropriate debate and discussion when needed
Description of Positions:
Vice President/ President-Elect: Will serve three one-year terms: September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2027. Chosen for vision and leadership qualities, the president-elect automatically advances next year to the position of president, then remains on the board for a third year as immediate past president. In the absence or incapacity of the president, the president-elect presides at the meetings of the Society and the board of directors. The president-elect serves as chair of the nominations and elections committee.
Secretary: Will serve a two-year term from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2026 and is eligible for re-election to a second two-year term. The Secretary ensures that the minutes of meetings of the membership and the board of directors are recorded and maintained.
Director: Serves for a two-year term from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2026 and is eligible for re-election to a second two-year term. This director represents the interests of all members generally.
