New York has been a national leader over the last several decades in requiring professional service companies to subcontract sizable portions of their contracts to Minority/Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses (SDVOB) firms. Still, many large companies have handled these partnerships on a case-by-case basis without a comprehensive strategic plan, and “XBE” organizations have struggled to scale up and distinguish their brand within a fast-paced marketplace. The key to long-term, sustainable success will be found in how both rise to the challenge in the years ahead.
